Headwaters Videos Toolkit

ACWA has developed a suite of videos to help member agencies educate the public and lawmakers about the critical need to protect California’s headwaters and take steps to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire. The videos use striking visuals and expert interviews to highlight the challenges, impacts and solutions in a fast-paced and engaging way.

The videos were developed in coordination with ACWA’s Headwaters Workgroup. Members of the workgroup also funded the project.

How to Use the Videos

ACWA is encouraging member agencies to use the videos to educate customers, community leaders and lawmakers in Sacramento and Washington DC. There are six different videos to incorporate into your education and outreach efforts.

A breakdown of the six videos:

  • The main video is 4 minutes and 28 seconds long and includes the most detailed look at the issue. Ways to utilize this video include: downloading the video and placing on your website; sharing a link to the video on your website or acwa.com/headwaters; sharing a link to the video on your social media, through your newsletter and bill inserts; showing the video at public speaking engagements, during tours and meetings with lawmakers; and playing it during Board of Directors or City Council meetings.
  • A shorter, 1-minute version of this video is also available and can be used in similar ways, but is especially well suited for use on social media.
  • Additionally, there are four vignette-style videos highlighting four separate aspects of the topic: The problem, challenges, impacts and solutions. These videos are a little over 1-minute long each and can be shared individually or as a series. These are also good to use on social media.

Social media

  • There is a vertical version of the 1-minute video to use on Instagram as a Reel, Facebook Stories or TikTok and a horitzontal version to use on LinkedIn.
  • Another option is to post a graphic with a link to the long version of the video on your website or ACWA’s website at www.acwa.com/headwaters.
  • When sharing the videos on social media, please tag ACWA (@ACWAWater) so that we can easily see, like and share your posts on our social media channels. Use the hashtags #CAWater and #CALeg to expand your reach.
