The ACWA Nominating Committee is seeking nominations for qualified candidates to serve as ACWA president and vice president for the 2020-’21 elected term.

To be eligible for election, candidates must be elected or appointed directors of ACWA member agencies, according to ACWA Bylaws and Board of Directors’ policy.

Nominations must be accompanied by an official nominating resolution from the ACWA member agency on whose board the nominee serves. A statement of qualifications or resume highlighting the proposed candidate’s background and qualifications also must be submitted for the Nominating Committee’s review.

Additional letters or resolutions of support from other agencies may be submitted, but they are not required.

Resolutions to nominate a candidate must be received in the ACWA office by Sept. 3, 2019, to be considered by the Nominating Committee. Nominees will be notified regarding individual interviews, which will be conducted in September. The Nominating Committee’s recommended slate will be announced at the Sept. 27 ACWA Board of Directors’ meeting.

Elections are scheduled for Dec. 4 during the ACWA 2019 Fall Conference & Exhibition in San Diego.

Nominating Committee members are:

  • DeAna Verbeke, Region 10 (Chair)
  • Brad Sherwood, Region 1
  • Terri Daly, Region 2
  • Shannon Cotulla, Region 3
  • John Woodling, Region 4
  • Sue Stephenson, Region 5
  • Palmer McCoy, Region 6
  • Bill Taube, Region 7
  • Edgar Dymally, Region 8
  • Kathy Tiegs, Region 9

The committee was appointed by ACWA President Brent Hastey during the 2019 Spring Conference & Exhibition in Monterey.

“Strong ACWA leadership is essential in providing positive solutions to the many issues facing water agencies throughout California,” said Nominating Committee Chair DeAna Verbeke. “This past year, ACWA’s voice was heard at the state Capitol as we successfully lobbied for a sensible alternative to what seemed to be an inevitable tax on water. Going forward, the necessity of strong ACWA board leadership is equally important to the success of the organization in advocating on behalf of ACWA members. The Nominating Committee is calling for qualified candidates to fill these important positions.”

To recommend a candidate for nomination, send a copy of the agency resolution and the candidate’s background by Sept. 3 to:

DeAna Verbeke, Nominating Committee Chair
c/o Donna Pangborn, Clerk of the Board
910 K Street, Suite 100
Sacramento, CA 95814

For questions, please contact Donna Pangborn at (916) 441-4545.
