Elk Grove Water District Water Quality and Supply Amid COVID-19 by Mark J. Madison Apr 2, 2020 Member Submitted News On March 16, 2020, the Elk Grove Water District (EGWD) announced that it will be implementing Risk Level 3, as defined in its Coronavirus (COVID-19) Risk Minimization and Outbreak Response Plan. These additional social distancing measures are being taken at this time due to the increased number of COVID-19 cases in Sacramento and surrounding counties. These measures are intended to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community, thereby reducing the risk to you and our staff of contracting the virus. We are continuing to monitor the COVID-19 situation daily and will continue to implement additional measures outlined in our Plan, as needed. We want to reassure you that the District will continue to supply you and your family with a safe and reliable water supply. The water at your tap continues to be of the highest quality and is 100-percent safe to drink. There is no threat to your public drinking water supply and no need turn away from your tap to bottled water. The District’s treatment processes are specifically designed to protect the public from all viruses and harmful bacteria. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has stated: “The COVID-19 virus has not been detected in drinking water.” Because of our dedicated staff and our preparedness for the current COVID-19 situation, we will continue to provide our customers a safe and reliable water supply in the coming weeks and months. Our response plan is available for your review on our website (www.egwd.org).
