EPA Announces New Cybersecurity Requirements by ACWA Staff Mar 14, 2023 Water News WASHINGTON, D.C. – On March 3, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released a long-anticipated interpretive memo with a new requirement for states to evaluate the cybersecurity of operational technology used by public water systems as a part of periodic sanitary surveys or through other state programs. EPA emphasized that since this memo represents a legal re-interpretation of existing authorities, the implementation timeline is immediate. To support implementation, EPA is providing no-cost technical assistance, training, and resources to states and water systems. More details about the requirement, including a guidance document and fact sheet, can be found on EPA’s website.
