Marina Coast Water District and Partners Win National Award for Recycled Water by Marina Coast Water District Oct 14, 2024 Member Submitted News Marina Coast Water District, Monterey Peninsula Water Management District (MPWMD), and California American Water (Cal-Am) were jointly honored by the WateReuse Association as “2024 Recycled Water Customer of the Year” for innovation and support of advanced purified, recycled water. As a project co-owner, Marina Coast Water District and its partners all worked with Pure Water Monterey to develop the recycled water. Marina Coast Water District delivers its share to golf courses in Seaside, with plans to expand service to additional customers over time. MPMWD and Cal-Am inject their share into the groundwater aquifer, where it is stored for later use and undergoes additional natural filtration as it passes through layers of soil and rock. This public-private partnership currently provides one-third of all the water needed on the Peninsula and will provide over half of the current water demand when the Pure Water Monterey Expansion project is completed this coming year. “This is a sustainable, drought-proof supply,” noted Remleh Scherzinger, General Manager of Marina Coast Water District. “It is already addressing the water needs of Peninsula residents and businesses today, and it will continue to do so well into the future. We are incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved by working together.” Marina Coast Water District being presented with the National Award for innovation and support of advance-purified recycled water.
