Monte Vista Water District Recognized for Excellence in Financial Reporting by Monte Vista Water District Sep 19, 2024 Member Submitted News MONTCLAIR – For the 20th consecutive year, Monte Vista Water District (District) has been awarded the “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting” for its recent annual comprehensive financial report. The award was granted by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), a Chicago-based nonprofit professional association serving more than 20,000 federal, state, and local government finance professionals. GFOA touts the “Certificate of Achievement” as the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. The award program, established in 1945, encourages governments to prepare an annual comprehensive financial report that demonstrates the spirit of transparency and full disclosure. “Monte Vista Water District’s Board of Directors is very proud of its finance team for earning this honor for two decades,” said Tony Lopez, Board Auditor. “This recognition is a clear demonstration of the District’s core value in fiscal responsibility,” Lopez stated. “The District values being accountable and transparent in carrying out all District operations, particularly in financial management.” Reports submitted for award consideration are reviewed by selected members of the GFOA review committee, which is comprised of individuals with expertise in public-sector financial reporting and includes financial statement preparers, independent auditors, academics, and other finance professionals. The committee does not assess the financial health of the agency but rather reviews and ensures users that their financial statements have the information needed to do so.
