OCWD Director Cathy Green Garners Statewide Support for ACWA Vice President by Orange County Water District Aug 26, 2021 Member Submitted News FOUNTAIN VALLEY– Orange County Water District (OCWD; the District) Director Cathy Green is securing statewide support for her nomination as a candidate for Vice President of the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA)—the largest statewide coalition of public water agencies in the United States. “It is an honor to receive such overwhelming support from my colleagues throughout California,” said Director Green. “My vision for ACWA is to embrace its motto, Bringing Water Together, which for me is about unifying ACWA members and working collaboratively to advance statewide issues and policies that ensure a safe, affordable and reliable water supply for all Californians.” As a longtime leader in the water industry, Director Green has worked to enhance water management, water quality, and water supply diversity and reliability to sustain our communities and our economy. Additionally, she has helped to effectively advocate for federal and state funding for water infrastructure and treatment projects, including Forecast-Informed Reservoir Operations (FIRO), groundwater cleanup, and water storage projects. Her experience includes being an active member of ACWA for the past nine years, serving on various ACWA Boards and Committees since 2012. Currently, she is a member of ACWA’s Executive Committee (since 2019) and Board of Directors (since 2012), and is serving her second term as Vice Chair of the ACWA Region 10 Board of Directors. Director Green also serves on ACWA’s Water Quality Committee (since 2012), and its Energy Committee (since 2020). Previously, she served two terms (2014-15 and 2018-19) as Region 10 Chair, and two terms on ACWA’s State Legislative Committee (2012-2015). In addition to her work with ACWA, Director Green has been an elected member of the OCWD Board of Directors for more than a decade. As First Vice President, a role she has held multiple times, and as former Board President, Director Green has been instrumental in implementing award-winning projects and programs that are replicated by agencies worldwide, such as the Groundwater Replenishment System. Recognized globally for its innovation and leadership in water reuse and groundwater management, OCWD has received some of the most prestigious water awards in the industry including the Stockholm Water Prize and the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize. “I’m proud of what we have accomplished at OCWD, and I am even more proud that we always strive to share information, including best practices and lessons learned, that benefits the entire water industry,” said Director Green. “This is a philosophy I am committed to bringing to ACWA.” Prior to Director Green’s leadership in the water industry, she was elected to two consecutive terms on the Huntington Beach City Council, where she also served two terms as Mayor. “From leadership to industry experience to hard work and dedication, Cathy serves with integrity,” said OCWD Board President Stephen R.
