PPIC Releases Fact Sheet on Delta by ACWA Staff May 23, 2022 Water News The Public Policy Institute (PPIC) of California has released a new fact sheet on the Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay-Delta that summarizes three currently interlinked issues: an increasingly unreliable water supply, a decline in ecosystem health and a fragile system of levees. Among many highlights, the fact sheet stresses the necessity for new approaches, such as addressing negative changes in the Bay-Delta ecosystem that will require major investments in habitat and more strategic use of water available for the environment. The fact sheet also acknowledges that while the watershed still supports a recreational and commercial fishery, keystone species—including several runs of salmon—are threatened with extinction, adding that increases in environmental flows have not stopped the decline in native species. The fact sheet, available in English and Spanish, can be viewed on the PPIC’s website and downloaded as a PDF.
