Held in partnership with Tomorrow’s Talent, Pathfinder Day gave students a behind-the-scenes look at how Mojave Water Agency works to protect and manage water resources in the High Desert. The half-day event was designed to expose students to real-world careers in science, technology, operations, public service, and water resource management through both presentations and hands-on learning experiences. Students participated in a variety of activities throughout the day, including: Learning where the High Desert’s water comes from and how MWA helps manage that supply Touring the Agency’s Operations Center, including the SCADA control room and hydropower plant Exploring the nearby Mojave River Taking part in hands-on demonstrations related to water monitoring and field operations “Pathfinder Day was a great opportunity to help students see that the water industry offers a wide range of meaningful and impactful career paths,” said Charlene Engeron, Public Information Officer for Mojave Water Agency. “From hydrogeology and field operations to technology, communications, and public service, there are so many ways young people can build a future while helping sustain the communities they call home.” Pathfinder Day is part of a broader effort to connect students with local employers and introduce them to career fields they may not have previously considered. Through events like this, Mojave Water Agency hopes to inspire the next generation of professionals who will help address California’s future water challenges. MWA staff shared their professional experiences with students and highlighted the importance of collaboration, innovation, and stewardship in managing one of the region’s most valuable resources. “Water is something every community depends on, but many students don’t realize how many career opportunities exist behind the scenes,” Engeron added. “We were proud to open our doors and show students how exciting, technical, and important this work really is.” Mojave Water Agency thanks Tomorrow’s Talent, participating students, and Agency staff for helping make the event a success.
