On November 5th, 2019, the ratepayers of West Valley Water District elected Channing Hawkins to the Board of Directors, Division 4 representing the Cities of Rialto, Colton, and portions of unincorporated San Bernardino County. Upon being sworn in, Channing Hawkins was then elected by the Board of Directors to serve as Board President. “I am committed to ensuring the affordability, safety, and reliability of our local water system, not only for now but also for the future,” stated Hawkins. President Hawkins brings a fresh new perspective and diverse background of qualifications. Hawkins has earned his bachelor’s and Juris Doctor Degrees from Howard University. He is a labor representative for a public employee union in Riverside County, a Rialto Human Relations Commissioner, and Adult Literacy Volunteer to Colton residents. President Hawkins also serves as a board member of numerous nonprofit organizations. Transparency, accountability, and creating jobs are the top priorities for President Hawkins. Under his direction, West Valley Water District has begun a new era of transparency by live streaming Board of Directors meetings. December 19, 2019, marked the first live steaming meeting in West Valley Water District history. Utilizing technology will allow the community to stay informed about WVWD operations, upcoming meetings, and budgetary matters. President Hawkins concluded by stating, “Our Board will continue taking action towards attaining the Transparency Certificate of Excellence. Our commitment as an organization is to earn the trust of our customers and continue providing safe, high quality, and reliable water.” ### West Valley Water District (WVWD) is a special district that provides drinking water service to approximately 80,000 people, spanning from both San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. In a 31-square- mile area, WVWD serves portions of the communities of Bloomington, Colton, Fontana, Rialto, San Bernardino and Jurupa Valley.
