WVWD Earns Financial Reporting Award by West Valley Water District Sep 26, 2022 Member Submitted News RIALTO — West Valley Water District (WVWD) Board of Directors today announced that the organization earned the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021. The GFOA, a public organization representing more than 20,000 public finance officials across the United States and Canada, awards this certificate to government organizations that meet its strict requirements for financial disclosure and transparency in Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFR). ACFR are a set of financial statements that comply with accounting requirements established by the Government Accounting Standards Board. With this year’s certificate, WVWD earned the GFOA’s award for eleven years in a row. “Receiving this award for the eleventh consecutive year is a testament to the continued commitment of both the board and agency staff to provide greater accountability and transparency to our ratepayers,” said WVWD Board President Channing Hawkins. “On behalf of the entire board, we applaud the finance department for their relentless pursuit of excellence.” The ACFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report. “As Finance Committee Chair, I have seen first-hand the efforts the finance team puts forth to produce this award-winning report,” said WVWD Board Vice President Greg Young. “This certificate is tangible evidence of success in our commitment to be transparent, responsible stewards of ratepayer dollars.” In addition to earning the prestigious financial reporting award, the GFOA recognized WVWD Director of Finance Jose Velasquez for his primary role in the preparation and finalization of the ACFR and earned the GFOA’s Award of Financial Reporting Achievement. “This award is a reflection of the dedication, knowledge and professionalism of my team,” said Velasquez. “The success of the district is our priority, and we look forward to continuing to earn public trust through the work we do every day.” To view the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, visit www.wvwd.org/transparency. # # # The West Valley Water District has proudly served the Southern California communities of Bloomington, Colton, Fontana, Rialto, San Bernardino, and Jurupa Valley since 1952.
