WVWD Shines Spotlight on Team During Water Professionals Appreciation Week by Walnut Valley Water District Oct 15, 2024 Member Submitted News WALNUT – Walnut Valley Water District (WVWD) proudly celebrated California Water Professionals Appreciation Week from October 5-13, 2024. This week, officially designated by the California Legislature, recognizes the essential role of water and wastewater professionals in providing safe and reliable services across the state. It also serves to educate the community and highlight rewarding careers in the water industry. To kick off the week, WVWD staff gathered for their annual pancake breakfast. During the event, team members received new shirts showcasing one of the District’s 32 reservoirs. The Pathfinder Reservoir shirt, designed collaboratively by the External Affairs & Sustainability and Engineering departments, featured the reservoir’s original design plans and included a QR code linking to a music video that highlighted water conservation and the District’s pride in serving its community. WVWD organized a variety of activities to keep the festivities thriving. Daily treats kept everyone energized and engaged, while a coffee cart served handcrafted beverages, and chair massages provided relaxation. The celebrations culminated in the much-anticipated kickball game, where staff divided into two teams— “Team Potable Water” and “Team Recycled Water.” This game always creates a buzz of friendly competition and adds an extra spark. In addition to these activities, the week provided an opportunity to honor the eight employees who have dedicated over 20 years of service to the District. Each of these valued team members received a curated gift basket, including a special “20 Year Club” mug. WVWD also featured “Water Pro Spotlights” on social media, providing a platform for them to share their diverse experiences in the water industry. This initiative highlighted the passion and dedication of those who work diligently behind the scenes. “Our water professionals are absolutely vital to our community, and every year, it’s a joy to take a moment to honor their hard work during this special time,” said WVWD General Manager, Sheryl Shaw. “This isn’t just about recognizing our team; it’s a heartfelt tribute to the essential services they provide. The activities and treats we offer are just a small way of showing our appreciation. Their commitment truly makes a difference every day.” The District was proud to join agencies statewide celebrating this week and aims to continue to inspire future generations to explore careers as water professionals.
