PWD to Highlight Water Augmentation Project at Let’s Talk H2O! Event by Palmdale Water District Oct 25, 2023 Member Submitted News PALMDALE – To provide the community with information about plans for an advanced water treatment plant, Palmdale Water District (PWD) will feature the Pure Water Antelope Valley project at its Let’s Talk H2O! event at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at 2029 East Avenue Q, Palmdale. PWD Engineering Manager Scott Rogers, who oversees the Pure Water AV project, will lead the presentation with updated information about plans to use highly treated recycled water for the area’s future water supply. He will be joined by Ruthie Glauber, an associate with Capture6. The partnership with Capture6 will make PWD the first in the state to use new technology to remove carbon by using a byproduct of the water purification process at Pure Water AV. “We are embarking on a project that will secure the future of water for our customers,” Rogers said. “I am excited to share the plans and help people understand how pure the water will be after undergoing three steps of intense treatment before it is injected in the aquifer and later pumped for potable use.” Next spring, PWD will start the construction of the 5,500-square-foot Pure Water AV Demonstration Facility at the eastern edge of its property at 20th Street East and Avenue Q. This smaller scale treatment plant will house the equipment to treat recycled water with micro-filtration filters, reverse osmosis and ultraviolet light with advanced oxidation. It also will have a tasting area and a community room. After it opens in 2025, it will operate for one year before a permanent full-scale facility is constructed on 25th Street East near Avenue Q. The full-scale site will have the ability to treat 5,325 acre-feet of recycled water from the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts’ Water Reclamation Plant in Palmdale. The Demonstration Facility is estimated to cost $17 million. PWD was recently awarded $750,000 from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation WaterSMART Grants for engineering costs for both the Demonstration Facility and full-scale project. Scheduled to be completed in 2028, the full-scale project is estimated to cost $175 million. The Let’s Talk H2O! event is free but requires registration.
