EPA Releases Proposed Drinking Water Standard for PFAS by ACWA Staff Mar 16, 2023 Water News WASHINGTON, D.C. – On March 14, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the proposed National Primary Drinking Water Regulation for six PFAS substances. The proposal would regulate PFOA and PFOS as individual contaminants, and will regulate four other PFAS – PFNA, PFHxS, PFBS, and GenX Chemicals – as a mixture. EPA proposed 4 parts per trillion (ppt) enforceable limit on PFOA or PFOS that could be in drinking water. The agency also proposed water concentration limits for each of the remaining four PFAS based on its estimated hazards, known as a Hazard Index. Once the proposal is published in the Federal Register there will be a 60-day comment period. ACWA will submit comments. EPA then plans to finalize the regulation by the end of 2023. EPA is hosting informational webinars on the proposal – registration is required to attend. The next session is on March 29, from 11 a.m. to noon.,and will provide a technical overview of the proposed PFAS NPDWR. Register online to attend.
