Donald Jones, Recycled Water Development Specialist, Central Basin Municipal Water District

1. Describe your job.

Central Basin owns and operates a recycled water system that delivers recycled water to more than 300 connections throughout southeast Los Angeles County. I’m responsible for expanding our recycled water customer base through our customer development program. I identify potential customers within our service area and facilitate the connection to Central Basin’s recycled water system.

2. What do you like best about your job?

I enjoy the variety of tasks and roles that my job offers. My job could have me providing an economic analysis on a potential new connection, and in the next hour meet in the field with a maintenance crew member of a school district to operate an irrigation system to test for system integrity.

3. How did you get into the water industry?

As a college undergraduate, I took an environmental economics class that sparked my interest in water conservation. Central Basin has a well-known water conservation program that I became a part of through an internship after school. I was adapted into the recycled water program from that internship and continue to push myself at Central Basin.

4. What is something unique about yourself?

I have a passion for martial arts and have provided instruction in Taekwondo. I possess training in Taekwondo, kickboxing, mixed martial arts (MMA) and more. I believe training and self-discipline can have a profound impact on a person, and provide a source of stability and tranquility in the everyday stresses of life.

5. What is your favorite food?

My favorite food has to be a classic American cheeseburger, with a side of French fries and a lemonade.  You can go to countless different restaurants that serve them all differently. It’s fun to compare, and to pick a few favorites to revisit!
