Limited Supply of Face masks Available For Water and Wastewater Agencies by ACWA Staff May 1, 2020 Water News California water and wastewater agencies can now request free cloth face masks through CalWARN. The supply is limited and CalWARN is making them available on a first-come, first-served basis. The single-sized, cotton face masks are washable and reusable, but are not for use with chemicals or in hazardous environments where N95 or other respirators are required. CalWARN is establishing a statewide system unprecedented in size and scale for distributing the face masks to water and wastewater agencies. It received them from the Federal Emergency Management Agency through a joint effort with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Water and Wastewater Agency Response Network and the American Water Works Association. Although the distribution is being handled by CalWARN, agencies do not need to be a CalWARN member to request the cloth face masks. Each utility can request up to two face masks per employee. Visit the CalWARN website at www.calwarn.org for more information about the program and detailed instructions for applying for the face masks. Additional resources are also available on ACWA’s website at www.acwa.com/COVID19.
