Salton Sea Authority Selects New Leadership Team by Salton Sea Authority Jul 2, 2024 Member Submitted News At a Special Meeting of the Salton Sea Authority (Authority) Board of Directors held on Wednesday, a leadership team for the coming year was selected. The Authority’s new leadership team includes: President Gina Dockstader Director, Imperial Irrigation District Vice President Castulo Estrada Board Vice President, Coachella Valley Water District Secretary Yxstian Gutierrez Supervisor, Riverside County Treasurer Ryan Kelley Supervisor, Imperial County Taking the gavel effective July 1st, incoming President Dockstader committed to hit the ground running, commenting “I applaud outgoing President Santillanes for a successful year at the helm of the Salton Sea Authority. As incoming President, I look forward to further leveraging the strong ties between the Authority member agencies to realize meaningful, sustainable improvements to the Sea and region.” Altrena Santillanes, Tribal Secretary for the Torrez Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians, who has ably led the Authority for the past year applauded Director Dockstader on her selection: “It’s been an honor to serve as Salton Sea Authority president this past year, highlighted by the celebration of the Authority’s 30 years of service to the community and achieving milestones of success seemingly unthinkable just a few short years ago. I look forward to supporting President-elect Dockstader’s leadership in the Authority’s pursuit of even greater successes.” Under President Santillanes’ leadership the Authority saw tremendous success at the community level while working collaboratively with our state partners and advancing opportunities with federal stakeholders. Scoping and clear direction was established on the creation of a comprehensive ecosystem restoration plan being developed jointly by the Authority, the State of California Department of Water Resources (together as “local sponsors”), and the United States Army Corps of Engineers. This “feasibility study”, secured by the Authority in 2020, is funded 50% by the federal government and 50% by the local sponsors. The Authority Board holds regular public meetings to discuss the important work taking place at and around the Sea, and to advance public discussion on opportunities, challenges and concerns of local and regional community members and others in that regard. The next meeting of the board is scheduled for July 19th and will be held in the Imperial County.
