Record-Breaking Attendance at Yorba Linda Water District’s 2025 Open House by Yorba Linda Water District Oct 15, 2025 Member Submitted News The Yorba Linda Water District (YLWD/District) welcomed a record-breaking crowd to its annual Open House on Saturday, October 4, drawing approximately 500 attendees from across Southern California — with guests traveling from as far as Los Angeles and San Diego — to experience an inside look at how YLWD’s water system works. This year’s Open House offered a dynamic mix of family-friendly activities, hands-on demonstrations, and guided tours of the District’s state-of-the-art J. Wayne Miller, Ph.D. Water Treatment Plant — the largest PFAS treatment facility of its kind in the nation. Attendees had the opportunity to meet YLWD’s dedicated team of water professionals and learn where their water comes from, and how it’s treated and delivered safely to homes and businesses every day. “We were thrilled to see such a strong turnout and community interest this year,” said YLWD General Manager, Mark Toy. “Our Open House gives our customers a unique opportunity to see behind the scenes of their water system — and to meet the water professionals who work 24/7 to ensure high-quality, reliable service. The record attendance shows how much our community is interested in water and how much they value transparency and innovation.” Guests of all ages enjoyed a variety of engaging and educational activities, including: Three Water Treatment Plant Tours, led by YLWD production experts, each fully booked with more than 50 participants. A California Friendly Native Plants Landscape Workshop, inspiring and helping attendees create beautiful, drought-tolerant, water-efficient gardens. Interactive games and activities, such as a fire-hydrant ring toss, Water-Wise Plinko, shave ice, face painting, and balloon animals. Live music by local surf band Blue Doom. Giveaways and a special appearance by Ricky the Rambunctious Raindrop, courtesy of the Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC). Among the day’s most popular exhibits was YLWD’s Wastewater Collections Team demonstration, featuring a sewer system simulation that illustrated what happens after a toilet is flushed — giving guests a fascinating, behind-the-scenes look at wastewater operations. The Team also unveiled YLWD’s new all-electric sewer pipeline inspection van, a Chevy BrightDrop, with the interior of the van fully customized and built entirely in-house by the District’s Fleet and Operations Teams — achieving a significant cost savings compared to purchasing a pre-built sewer inspection unit. The van operates on a solar-powered battery and inverter system, with no generators, no noise, and zero emissions. YLWD extends its sincere gratitude to the community partners who helped make the Open House a success, including: The Municipal Water District of Orange County, Orange County Water District, Orange County Sanitation District, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, City of Yorba Linda, and the Yorba Linda High School Key Club, among others. Their participation added valuable insight, resources, and excitement to the day’s festivities. “This event is one of our favorite opportunities to connect directly with the community,” said YLWD Board President, Tom Lindsey. “It’s inspiring to see so many customers take an active interest in where their water comes from and for them to see all the various services that we provide – from billing, to rates, to the work that is done with the sewers, to the water lines. As you can see by the attendance, people are interested in this, so as long as there is interest in the community, we’re going to keep doing these events!” If you missed this year’s event, mark your calendars — YLWD looks forward to welcoming the community back for its 2026 Open House!
