Western Urges Customers to Save Water as Other Communities Face Mandatory Cuts by Western Municipal Water District Apr 28, 2022 Member Submitted News RIVERSIDE – As of Wednesday, April 27, The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is requiring that more than 6 million people in parts of Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Ventura counties—who rely on state water from northern California — restrict outdoor watering to just one day per week due to rapidly worsening drought conditions. While this mandate DOES NOT currently apply to Western Municipal Water District (Western) customers, the announcement emphasizes the urgent and serious nature of this drought. Western is urging customers to reduce their water use by 20%, especially outdoors, where the biggest water savings can be achieved. “The drought is an ongoing crisis that will call for continued water conservation,” said Western’s General Manager Craig Miller. “We all need to work together to make supplies last as long as possible to get us through this drought, which means increasing water conservation as much as possible.” Western needs customers to know that future mandatory water usage cutbacks may be required this summer if these extreme drought conditions persist, and supplies continue to dwindle. “When we’re hit with particularly dry times like this, Californians know how to use less water and Western is here to help,” continued Miller. “The State has gone through the driest January-March period in history, we must take outdoor water conservation very seriously.” Western is continuously reinvesting in its customers by innovating new tools and enhancing existing rebates that help customers take control of their water usage. Western customers are encouraged to take advantage of the many customer support programs provided and listed below. Western’s H20 Depot – A new no-cost online store where customers can select from various water-saving devices such as showerheads, hose nozzles, and moisture meters and have them shipped directly to their homes. Enhanced Rebates – Residential and commercial customers have access to various indoor and outdoor rebates for clothes washers, toilets, weather-based irrigation controllers, and more. Turf Replacement Program – Removing turf grass is one of the most water-conscious adjustments a homeowner can make to reduce water usage and associated costs. For a limited time, homeowners can receive up to $5 per square foot for the first 1,000 square feet of turf removed.
