The Yuba Water Agency is recruiting for the position of Hydro Maintenance Worker within our Maintenance division in the Power Systems Department. The position would report directly to the Maintenance Manager, with direct supervision by the Working Foreman.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate possesses a genuine desire to serve the Yuba County community, exhibits curiosity to learn about the mission areas of the organization and a strong desire to learn and grow professionally. The ideal candidate can perform all routine maintenance associated with the operation of all power plant generation, transmission and water control equipment related to the maintenance and repair of water supply, flood control, hydroelectric and recreation facilities, and all related components of the Yuba Water Agency’s facilities.

The ideal candidate is skilled in problem solving can work independently and build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other agency employees, government entities, contract providers and the public using principles of good customer service.

Typical Tasks

Perform all aspects related to the maintenance and repair of the Agency’s hydroelectric generating facilities including but not limited to roads and culverts, vegetation management, drainage, building, and power plant maintenance. Performance of reservoir and water conveyance, upkeep including debris clearing, trash rack cleaning, garbage clean up around recreational facilities, and pumping out stationary and floating restrooms. This includes performing building maintenance such as framing, painting, plumbing, construction, pouring concrete pads and retaining walls. In performing the above-mentioned tasks, you will need to be skilled in the operation of all of Agency heavy equipment including dump trucks, skid steer, excavator, backhoe, and tugboats. Safely operate with DOT standards to secure and transport heavy equipment and loads. The ideal candidate will possess a D2/T2 water treatment license and be able to operate the Agency’s water treatment plant. You should be able to operate Mobile, Fixed, and Gantry style Cranes as well as perform various rigging tasks as required and maintain a current crane operation certificate. An applicators license is desired.

Education/Training

Education: Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience: Two years maintenance in the field of maintenance and repair of equipment. Experience in systems similar to that found in Agency’s Power Project preferred. Experience in the field of construction project coordination is highly desired.

License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain an appropriate, valid California Class A – Commercial Driver License and Crane Operator’s certificate within six (6) months of employment. D2-T2 certification is highly preferred and will be paid at the higher classification rate.

Special Requirements

This position is subject to call out and must reside close enough to travel to Oregon House within one hour.

If the Crane Operator’s certificate lapses, the employee will be immediately re-classified to Utility Worker until the certificate is active again. If the D2 or T2 certification lapses, the employee will be paid at the lower hydro maintenance worker rate and not the higher D2-T2 hydro maintenance worker rate until both certificates are active again.

This position is required to register with the Clearinghouse through Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and participate in the random drug testing program, as required by Department of Transportation (DOT).

2024 Health Insurance rates: 1-party is $901.61, 2-party is $1,803.22, and 3+party is $2,448.89 per month. Any premiums in excess of these amounts shall be paid by the employee.
Dental: 100% paid coverage for employee and dependents
Vision: 100% paid coverage for employee and dependents
Vacation: Accrued at 12.6 hours per calendar month and increases with years of service
Sick Leave: Accrued at 10 hours per calendar month
Holidays: 12 official holidays per year
Retirement: CalPERS: For classic members 2% @ 55 formula and the agency will pay 5% of the employee’s 7% contribution to CalPERS. For all others, subject to the provisions of AB340 with a 2%@ 62 formula
Retiree health through the agency upon completion of ten (10) years of service credit with the agency and retirement from CalPERS. The agency’s present contribution for each annuitant, including enrollment of his/her family members, is a maximum of $1,850 per month.
Deferred Compensation: Voluntary participation in Agency Plans. The agency will contribute 7.65% amount towards the plan.
Life Insurance: $100,000
Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) with Agency contribution of $600/year for 2024
Flexible Spending Medical / Dependent Care Accounts available with pre-tax payroll contributions
Educational/training tuition reimbursement available
