Senior/Principal Engineer – Water System Planning/Hydraulic Modeling

Water system master planning and modeling of integrated surface water and groundwater systems

West Yost Associates (West Yost) has an immediate opening for a senior/principal engineer with Water System Planning/Hydraulic Modeling experience to work in one of our Northern California offices (preferably Davis or East Sacramento) and to conduct water system master planning evaluations and perform water distribution system modeling of integrated surface water and groundwater systems. Project experience in water distribution system model development/update and hydraulic evaluations is required. Well-developed client interaction skills and business development experience are ideal.

Additional experience in developing demand projections, evaluating water supply alternatives, developing water system performance/design criteria, and formulating capital improvement programs is highly desirable. Experience with reclamation/reuse, water system design, and understanding of utility financing and rates is also preferred.


  • Performing, overseeing, and reviewing water distribution system hydraulic evaluations utilizing a variety of commercial hydraulic modeling software programs (e.g., InfoWater)
  • Analyzing water use, population, water quality, and facilities condition data
  • Preparing and/or managing the preparation of technical reports and master plans
  • Serving as task manager and/or project manager, maintaining task/project budgets and schedules, and mentoring junior-level staff
  • Interacting directly with clients and providing excellent client service
  • Assisting with marketing activities, including market evaluation and strategy, pre-marketing activities, and proposal development


The ideal candidate would be a proficient hydraulic modeler for water distribution systems and a California licensed Professional Engineer with 10-15 years of hands-on project and hydraulic modeling experience. Candidate must be proficient with InfoWater and other related commercially-available software packages. GIS proficiency is also required. Candidate should have the ability to perform QA on hydraulic models prepared by others. Project and staff management experience, as well as excellent writing and communication skills, are essential.
