Public Invited to Vote for Their Favorite Water Spots Video by Regional Water Authority Apr 13, 2022 Water News Sacramento-area middle school and high school students were challenged to explore the topic “When in Drought…” in 30-second public service videos in the 2022 Water Spots Video Contest. Dozens of entries were submitted, and now it’s time for the public to vote for their favorite. From April 13-May 3, 2022, the top 10 video entries, as determined by a panel of expert judges, will be available online for viewing and voting at https://woobox.com/n86hcq. The video that receives the most votes will earn $250 for the student and $250 for their teacher, as well as the chance to win the Grand Prize—the chance to see their video premiere on the big screen this summer and run for a month at local movie theaters. Water Spots finalists represent schools from throughout the Sacramento region and include: “Save Sprinkler Water” by Stella Szura and Malia Romias (Matt Rowland, teacher), Arden Middle School in Sacramento “Saving Water Using a Moisture Meter” by Dylan Stapletan (Matt Rowland, teacher), Arden Middle School in Sacramento “Drought News Network” by Addison Morris (Scott Southard, teacher), Folsom High School in Folsom “Make the Switch to Efficient Sprinklers” by Markus Zarco and Christopher Zarco (Scott Southard, teacher), Folsom High School in Folsom “Spooky Ghost: Pipe” by Andrew Gall (Scott Southard, teacher), Folsom High School in Folsom “Tips & Tricks with Water Conservation” by Natalie Frederiksen (Brad Clark, teacher), Franklin High School in Elk Grove “5 Easy Ways to Save Water” by Giada Bhan (Kyle Heckey, teacher), Sutter Middle School in Sacramento “Doing YOUR Part” by Sanjay Suresh and Shawn Singh (Ben Barnholdt, teacher), Whitney High School in Rocklin “WATCH Your Water” by Daniela Ianev, Cameron Weber and Ana Alquicira (Ben Barnholdt, teacher), Whitney High School in Rocklin “Be Water Smart” by Elvis Clark and Alina Denisyuk (Wendy Esquivel, teacher), Will Rogers Middle School in Fair Oaks On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, all of the award winners will be announced, including: Grand Prize People’s Choice (determined by online voting) Judge’s Choice First Place Judge’s Choice Second Place Judge’s Choice Third Place Top scoring video from each school (minimum is five eligible videos per school; Judge’s Choice and People’s Choice winners not eligible) Teachers who submitted the most videos (minimum is 10 eligible videos per teacher) A HUGE “thank you” to our expert judges for lending their expertise. They included: Monica Woods, Chief Meteorologist at ABC10 Kathleen Dodge, Executive Director of the El Dorado Lake Tahoe Film & Media Office Lisa Cuellar, Program Manager at the California Water Efficiency Partnership Their selections were based on creativity, entertainment value, accuracy, originality and incorporation of the 2022 water efficiency message. The Water Spots Video Contest is sponsored by the Regional Water Authority and local water providers. Now in its 10th year, the contest challenges students to create videos focused on a select water efficiency theme.
