EPA Finalizes Nationwide Monitoring Rule for PFAS in Drinking Water by ACWA Staff Dec 21, 2021 Water News WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Dec. 20 finalized a nationwide monitoring rule for 30 chemicals in drinking water. The Fifth Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR 5) requires public water systems to collect national occurrence data for 29 PFAS and lithium in drinking water. All community water systems serving between 3,300 and 10,000 people will have to monitor for these contaminants from 2023-2025 and report final results through 2026. EPA also plans to host stakeholder webinars in 2022. More information on the webinars will be available on EPA’s website. ACWA previously submitted comments on the proposed UCMR 5 which asked for flexibility in allowable PFAS testing methods.
