Faces of Water: Chuck Pollock – Dec. 2019 by Chuck Pollock Dec 20, 2019 Newsletters Chuck Pollock, Field Services Superintendent, Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District 1. Describe your job. As the lead in the Field Services Department, I oversee replacement, testing and installation of meters and advanced meter technology equipment. I lead a crew, serving as support to them, and assist customers with complex issues such as unexplained high-water usage. Customer service is a big part of the job, and I am committed to providing the best service I can to EVMWD’s customers. 2. What do you like best about your job? I enjoy solving complex customer issues. It’s an exciting challenge to look through collected data and determine the best course of action based on facts. It’s my goal to provide an outcome that is beneficial for both the customer and EVMWD. I also like mentoring staff on attaining goals through education, understanding and hard work. I like to encourage my coworkers and, together, work to build a strong team. 3. How did you get into the water industry? I started in the water industry following my father Wendell and my uncle Warren, who each have more than 30 years of experience in the industry. After working in the Meter Department and serving as the Assistant to the Superintendent and Safety Compliance Officer, I was promoted to Meter and Backflow Foreman. I was fortunate enough to work in the community that I grew up in, so I had a connection to both the city and its customers. 4. What is something unique about yourself? For the last eight years, I have participated in the Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure in an effort to raise awareness and funds to support finding a cure for breast cancer. The walk is an annual event where I walk 60 miles over the span of three days. As a co-captain for my team, I set up training walks and help support members of the team to prepare for the walk. This year my team consists of 77 people, and over the years, we have helped to raise $2 million in funds to support this important cause. 5. What is your favorite movie? I grew up on the Star Wars movies and enjoyed the message that I got from it. It showed me that no matter what the situation is, there is always hope and to believe in yourself no matter what others tell you. I will be sad to see the original series end later this year.
