Monica Noeng, Environmental Services Specialist, Ventura Water, City of Ventura

Telling the stories of the people who work to deliver California’s water…

1. Describe your job.

I provide support for the water resources manager along with researching, compiling and analyzing data related to water use, water savings and water rates. I am also a member of our outreach team.

2. What do you like best about your job?

There are so many facets (faucets, ha ha) to water – efficiency, production, treatment, distribution, recycling, etc. My favorite thing about my job is that I get to learn something new every day.

3. How did you get into the water industry?

I fell in love with the outdoors at a young age. After taking an environmental studies class in high school, I knew which career I wanted to pursue. Then, after earning a degree in Environmental Studies, I interned with the City of Long Beach’s Office of Sustainability. I enjoyed assisting in various projects including mulch deliveries, lawn removal and urban farming research. I eventually found a permanent position at Ventura Water.

4. What is something unique about yourself?

I was 18 the first time I traveled internationally. I volunteered in Costa Rica to protect the Leatherback Sea Turtles by patrolling beaches and guarding eggs.

5. What is your favorite food?

A Japanese hot pot dish called Shabu shabu, which translates to “swish swish.”
