MWDOC Offers Hands-On Water Supply Activity for OC Girl Scouts by Municipal Water District of Orange County Nov 4, 2022 Member Submitted News The Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC) recently hosted an interactive water supply activity at the annual Girl Scouts of Orange County STEM Expo. With nearly 200 OC Girl Scouts in attendance, participants were challenged to design, build, and test a water delivery system that resembles how water travels through mountains, aqueducts, and pipelines from Northern California to Orange County. Using supplied materials, the girls were asked to put on their engineering hard hats (literally and figuratively) to create an innovative water delivery system. Each system included key elements like a pumping station, aqueducts, reservoirs, pipelines, and water treatment plants, ultimately delivering the water to their “home.” This engaging activity sparked meaningful conversations with the girls and their families on the current drought situation, potential careers in water, and the challenges water providers face to deliver a clean, safe, reliable water supply to our region. The exercise was so popular that several attendees snagged a MWDOC “Grab-and-Go Water Activity,” which includes detailed instructions and a list of materials to complete the same activity at home. MWDOC is committed to providing essential water education through its award-winning programs and opportunities like the annual Girl Scouts of Orange County STEM Expo.
